Using Library Resources

Tips to Access Library Materials from the Web

AU Libraries license or purchase many expensive resources, and individual Adelphi community members should not pay to access an article or view e-materials unless they have checked that the library does not have access on their behalf.

NOTE: If the methods listed below do not allow you to access a resource, check out our (free) Interlibrary Borrowing service.

Method Quick Description - See below for details
Adelphi's EZproxy services Install a bookmarklet on your browser toolbar, or manually convert a URL with the library's proxy prefix.
Third Iron's LibKey Nomad Install the LibKey Nomad browser extention on Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers. Note that for Chrome, you may need IT permission or to use a non-AU Chrome/Gmail account.
Google Scholar's Settings Add Adelphi University to the "Library links" section of your settings to see AU access options in your results.

Adelphi EZProxy & Bookmarklet

Library resources are accessible when the publisher/website has confirmed you are an authentic AU user who should have access priviledges. Enter your eCampus login information when prompted. OneSearch and our library databases will prompt you and "proxy" automatically, but the methods below will assist you when you don't start out at the library website.

Adelphi EZProxy Bookmarklet

You can make use of a "bookmarklet" in a browser to automate the conversion of any URL to an Adelphi University Libraries-proxied URL. A bookmarklet is a snippet of Javascript that is saved as a bookmark in the browser, preferably in the bookmark bar at the top. (If the bookmark bar is not visible you may need to configure your browser to not hide it.)

To install the Adelphi University Libraries' EZProxy bookmarklet in your browser:

  1. Drag the following link to your bookmark bar: Adelphi EZProxy
  2. When you are viewing a journal article or other resource on the web, click this bookmarklet and it will automatically apply Adelphi University Libraries's proxy to the current address. If Adelphi University Libraries provides access to the resource, you should then be able to access full text or other features previously not available.

Note: If you are accessing library resources from the library website, you will be automatically "proxied" to sign in as an Adelphi user.

Proxy Prefix URL  (if not using the bookmarklet)

You can also convert a "regular" URL to a Library Proxied URL manually, simply by adding the following text to the front of that URL: https://adelphi.idm.oclc.org/login?url=

  1. If it works, you can access the article after logging in with your eCampus credentials.
  2. If it remains unavailable, that means the library doesn't have a subscription that includes that article.

For example:

Original URL is https://doi.org/10.1080/001318800440579

Proxied URL becomes https://adelphi.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://doi.org/10.1080/001318800440579

Browzine & LibKey Nomad

BrowZine replicates and enhances the experience of browsing current scholarly journals in a library, making it more convenient and personalized for researchers, faculty, and students. Their LibKey Nomad browser extension allows you to link to AU Libraries' content from the web.

  • Install the LibKey Nomad browser extension. See here for download options. It works similarly to the EZproxy bookmarklet in that it directs you to full text when it's available (e.g. the full article). It will also alert you if an article you are about to read has been redacted by the publisher.
  • For Chrome, you may have to use a non-AU Gmail address to install the extension.

Note: LibKey is also integrated into our library search tools so you may also see it when you're using OneSearch. You may also go directly to Browzine to access your shelf or search for content: https://libguides.adelphi.edu/browzine
