Honors Theses

Depositing your Honors Thesis in Scholarly Works

Want to share your thesis with the world? Talk to your advisor about the possibility of depositing it in Scholarly Works, Adelphi University’s institutional repository.

The full text of your thesis will be permanently available online, so that others can benefit from your work, and it will be given a digital object identifier or DOI, making it easy for you to share or add it to a resume. Here’s an example: 2011 Honors Thesis by Annie L. Benzie.

Benefits

  • Researchers around the world can find and read the full text of your thesis

  • Your thesis will appear in Google, Google Scholar, and other online search engines

  • Your thesis will be permanently accessible alongside other work by Adelphi faculty and students

  • Your thesis will be assigned a digital object identifier (DOI) providing you with a short, stable link which you can use to share it online

  • You will be able to see how many times your thesis has been viewed and downloaded

  • Researchers can cite your thesis in their work and export a citation in APA, MLA, or Chicago format containing the DOI.

Additional Considerations and Possible Drawbacks

  • If you or your advisor are planning on publishing portions of your thesis or continuing to pursue the research in graduate school, you may want to wait to deposit your thesis.

  • Depending on the content of your thesis and your career plans, you may not want it to be available online forever and be one of the first results that people see when they search for you online.

  • If you incorporated any copyrighted images or other content into your thesis, you will need to make sure that you have received all necessary permissions in addition to citing all of your sources.

Speak to your advisor to determine if you should deposit your thesis in Scholarly Works. To learn more about Scholarly Works, you can visit the site itself at https://scholarlyworks.adelphi.edu/esploro/. Students and advisors can contact scholarlyworks@adelphi.edu with questions.
