Any current member of the Adelphi community - students, faculty, staff - can submit their work to Scholarly Works. Previously unpublished works must have been completed while attending or working at Adelphi University. All student work must be approved by a faculty member before submission.
See the User Guide for step-by-step instructions on how to deposit various kinds of works in multiple ways. If you have a lot of published works which you would like to add, we may be able to add them as a batch if you can provide us with a RIS or BIBTEX file.
Before submitting work to be deposited in Scholarly Works, creators must ensure that all the necessary permissions have been obtained for the use of copyrighted materials. It is the responsibility of the depositor to ensure that the work does not infringe on the rights of others, does not contain libelous content, and every use of copyrighted material is properly cited.
Prior to depositing a work into Scholarly Works, creators must sign a publication agreement which stipulates that the work is their own, they have obtained all necessary permissions, and have not infringed on the rights of others.
By submitting this form, you acknowledge and agree to the following:
In the United States, creators of works automatically own the copyright and there is no need to register. You may no longer own the copyright to your work if you published it. Unless you published the work open access (OA), you likely transferred the copyright to the publisher when you signed the publication agreement. Check the first page of your publication agreement. If the work was published OA, you likely retained your copyright and granted the publisher a non-exclusive license to distribute the work.
Published works can be added much faster than previously unpublished works since no files are usually involved and the required information about the work can be easily verified and enhanced. When depositing previously unpublished work, it can sometimes take time to ensure the necessary information is accurate and add the files to the system. Our hope is to have previously published works up in 5-10 working days and unpublished works up in 10-15 working days.
Scholarly Works is intended to comprise a comprehensive and permanent collection of works by the Adelphi community. We therefore strongly discourage the withdrawal of works. With a compelling rationale, we will consider removing files and records created for works on a case-by-case basis.
To be considered open access, a work must have been published or shared using an open license. The most popular open licenses are from Creative Commons (CC). Each CC license guarantees perpetual free access to the work and grants various additional rights to end users depending on the specific license chosen (CC BY, CC BY-SA, etc.). For more information about OA licensing and publishing, see the Open Access and Scholarly Communications guide.
You can find the CC license as a symbol, a hyperlink, or plain text statement in the section of the work containing bibliographic and copyright information. If you need help determining the OA status of your work or identifying the open license, please contact scholarlyworks@adelphi.edu.
A DOI is a short, unique code assigned to a digital work which serves to identify it online. Every DOI also serves as a permanent link to its registered work, and they are now recommended in references and bibliographies.
The largest file we currently accept without additional discussion is 5GB, but we can accommodate larger files on a case-by-case basis. For videos and a few other file types, we may recommend hosting the work on a third-party site like YouTube.
ORCiD is a scholarly identifier that distinguishes you from other researchers and provides a means of sharing links to your work and information about your education, awards, professional experience, and so on. Scholarly Works, on the other hand, is a repository, meaning that you can upload your unpublished works, like presentations and data sets, and researchers around the world can download them for free. You can add a link to your ORCiD profile to your Scholarly Works and vice versa so that readers can easily move from one to the other.
You can access the repository at
