A poster presentation is a creative way to communicate your research or information on a topic. Posters include text and graphics and are accompanied by a small informal talk given by the presenter to engage with attendees.
Posters can be print or digital, depending on the conference at which you are presenting.
Advantages of a poster presentation:
- Report your findings in a succinct and engaging way
- Enables you to speak with small groups of people
- Easy introduction to presenting at conferences
- Allows you to be creative
(Becker, L. Presenting your research, p. 130)
What to expect at the presentation:
- Stand to the side of the poster and engage in conversation if the viewer is interested.
- Sell the message quickly and efficiently; don't read the poster.
- Prepare for questions.
