All About Books

Use OneSearch to find out what books you can access at Adelphi University Libraries. Through OneSearch you can access the library's extensive ebook collection. Start by entering your term in the search box. Use Advanced Search if you have a specific title or author. 

You can use OneSearch to find books, articles, videos, digital media, and more. Here is a link to an extensive guide on how to use OneSearch.

 


 

Below are some tips on locating books in the stacks, making hold and digitization requests. For ebook tips, see the tab above. 

Books are available for browsing in the stacks, by request to be held for you and up to 2 chapters of a book may be requested for digitization.

To locate print books in the library, note the call number in the book record. In the example below the call number is RT 81.5 .N866 2012 and is located in the main stacks of the Swirbul Library. Check the library map to see what floor the call number beginning with RT is on.

Request and Digitization is available in the Get It section of the book record:

  • Sign in to your OneSearch account at the top right corner of the OneSearch page.
  • Choose Request to pick up or have the book sent to your home
  • Choose Digitization to have some pages scanned and emailed to you. Please note only 10% or two chapters of a book can be digitized as we follow Copyright rules.

 

  • ebooks can be found through the OneSearch catalog. At the results page of your search, choose Books and Available Online from the Refine Your Results menu.
  • Only a certain number of pages can be printed and copied from ebooks.
  • The majority of our ebooks are in Ebook Central. An Ebook Central account is already set up for you. Sign in with your Adelphi University Universal Username and Password when prompted. In Ebook Central you can read a book online, save books to your Ebook Central Bookshelf, highlight, and take notes. 
  • You don't have to go through the OneSearch catalog to return to eBook Central. At the Libraries homepage type in Ebook Central in the search box and choose Databases & More.
