Business Citation Analysis and Scholarly Impact

Citation analysis studies the impact and assumed quality of an article, journal or author based on the number of times articles or authors have been cited by others, and the impact and ranking of the associated journals in that field.


Altmetrics is a developing way of using indicators on social media to measure the impact of research and find connections among research areas.  It looks at such social media as downloads from Zotero and Mendeley,  tweets, blog postings, and bookmarked citations. This expands the view of what impact is as scholarly activities are shared beyond the traditional gatekeeper publications.
