Social Work Resources: Professional Associations

American Board of Clinical Social Work The American Board of Clinical Social Work (ABCSW), founded in 1987, is the national standard-setting organization focused on education, advocacy and credentialing for the profession of Clinical Social Work.sets and promotes national practice standards, publishes position statements, issues the Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (BCD) credentials for advanced clinical practice, clinical supervision, children/families practice and psychoanalysis, and maintains an online directory of certificants.

International Association for Social Work with Groups (IASWG) Unites social workers and allied helping professionals engaged in group work. Promotes excellence in group work practice, education, field instruction, research, and publication.

National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Works to create professional standards for social work practice; advocate sound public social policies through political and legislative action; provide a wide range of membership services, including continuing education opportunities and an extensive professional program. Operates National Center for Social Policy and Practice. Conducts research; compiles statistics. 

National Association of Social Workers - New York City Chapter (NASW-NYC) The New York City Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-NYC) is one of the largest chapters of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) in the country. Founded in 1955, NASW-NYC represents professional social workers who are working throughout the five boroughs, primarily in public and non-profit organizations. Social workers are also in private practice and in other for-profit service related settings.

National Association of Social Workers - New York State Chapter (NASW-NYS)  Represents 12,000 members across New York State. Promotes, develops, and protects the practice of social work and members of the profession. It also seeks to enhance the well being of individuals, families and communities through its work and advocacy. Offers quality professional development programs for social workers through its Annual Power of Social Work Conference, Training Institutes and local division events. Also conducts advocacy and lobbying efforts to address issues of concern to professional social workers and the people they serve.

New York State School Social Workers Association (NYSSSWA) Promotes the professional development of school social workers. 

New York State Society for Clinical Social Work (NYSSCSW) Promotes high standards of education, practice, and professional community for those involved and interested in clinical social work psychotherapy.
