EBP in Nursing: More Resources

  • Evidence-based Practice Centers (EPCs) The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) created the Evidence-based Practice Centers (EPCs) in 1997 to conduct evidence reports for the Effective Health Care (EHC) Program. The EPCs are housed at universities, medical centers, and research institutions in the United States. The EPCs produce evidence reports on medications, devices, and other health care services for the EHC Program with the goal of helping consumers, health care professionals, and policymakers make informed and evidence-based health care decisions.

  • Cochrane Library  A collection of evidence-based health resources that contain high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. Includes the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and Cochrane Clinical Answers.

  • Evidently Cochrane Evidently Cochrane aims to make Cochrane evidence really accessible, and to encourage discussion about it, through blogs which usually feature new or updated Cochrane reviews on a health topic.

  • Nursing Experts: Translating the Evidence  A nursing EBP resource developed at University of Illinois Chicago with Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) funding. This guide is a tool for learning about evidence-based practice and a portal to evidence-based practice resources. This guide contains 2 paths: One is for public health nursing professionals and the other is for nursing professionals working in acute and ambulatory care.

  • Sigma Repository Dedicated to sharing works created by nurses around the world, the Sigma Repository is an open digital academic and clinical focused service that freely collects, preserves, and disseminates full-text nursing research, educational, and evidence-based practice materials in a variety of formats and item types. The repository is a resource of Sigma Theta Tau International (Sigma).

  • Trip Database - Turning Research into Practice A clinical search engine designed to allow users to quickly and easily find and use high-quality research evidence to support their practice and/or care. There's a free version and a premium (subscription) version.

  • U.S. Preventive Services Task Force  An independent, volunteer panel of national experts in disease prevention and evidence-based medicine. The Task Force works to improve the health of people nationwide by making evidence-based recommendations about clinical preventive services.
