Requesting an Item

Once you locate the item that you would like to request from the result list, click on the title of the item. Although certain titles are located only in one library, many times items can be found in more than one library’s collection (i.e. Multiple Locations). As shown below, the book, “Economics and the challenges of global warming”, can be requested only from Pace University’s Law library. On the other hand, the book titled, “Four degrees of global warming: Australia in a hot world,” can be found in “Multiple Locations.”

When you select an item that is available in multiple locations, you can view the full record and the names of the libraries that have the book in their collections by clicking the title of the item, In our example, the book, “Four degrees of global warming: Australia in a hot world,” is found in two libraries – Adelphi University and Siena College. As Adelphi Libraries have this book in their collections, the user may not need to borrow this book from Siena College and thus  the person will save time by not waiting for the book to arrive from Siena College library. In case, the book is missing from Adelphi Libraries or borrowed by another user, the item can be requested through Connect NY catalog. Once you decide on the item that you would like to borrow, click on the “Request” button as shown above.

After you submit the request, you will receive email response within a few days. If the lending library cannot supply the item you have requested, you will receive the cancelation email (and referral to ILL staff in Swirbul Library). If the lending library can supply the item that you have asked for, you will get the email saying the book has arrived and is on the hold shelf in Swirbul Library at Adelphi. You should also be able to see the status of your requested items in your account.

All ConnectNY items are sent to Swirbul Library. If a patron cannot come to Swirbul Library to pick up the requested item(s), we will ship the items to the person’s address via UPS. Items can be returned to any Adelphi library location, or we will send them a prepaid UPS label to ship back to us. Please contact AU Libraries User Services (userservices@adelphi.edu) if you want ConnectNY items to be mailed to your address.
