  • Swirbul Reserve materials are shelved in Access Services (1st floor) and may only be used in the Library.
  • Some articles on reserve are available electronically, and it will be indicated when you find the class reserves.
  • Heavily used books such as some NCLEXpRN titles may also be kept On Reserve.


This is a general guide for using library resources to find information in nursing.

Your research involves the following questions:

  1. What is the specific question or problem?  
    • Use PICO
  2. What type of information/literature are you looking for?
    • Evidence Based Practice (Qualitative/Quantitative/Systematic Reviews/Meta Analysis/Controlled Trials)
  3. What kinds of publications will you be using?
    • Evidence based, peer-reviewed research journal articles (Nursing Databases, particularly CINAHL, Cochrane, MedLine, PubMed, Health Source)

Want to clarify a term or get a background understanding of a nursing topic? Use eReference books to find the definition of a concept or background information. The following may be particularly helpful for your subject area.

Most of what you need to find at the Library can be found on the Library Home Page. By clicking on Students you will have access to links to electronic Reference books and journals, books and databases, course reserves and interlibrary loans, guides and tutorials. 

Our library catalog, called OneSearch, is on the Home Page and provides quick access to finding books, eBooks, videos and more.

You can access OneSearch as well as our databases and journals from home. Just use your Adelphi universal login and password.
