Between the World and Me is the 2016 Adelphi Community Reads. It is a best-seller and winner of the 2015 National Book Award. In this highly acclaimed memoir, written as a letter to his son, Ta-Nehisi Coates paints an unflinching portrait of his experiences growing up in black America. Reading and discussion of the book will be part of Racial Justice Matters, a campus-wide initiative of the Adelphi University Collaboration Project.

About the Author

Ta-Nehisi Coates is a national correspondent for The Atlantic and the author of the memoir The Beautiful Struggle. Coates has received the National Magazine Award, the Hillman Prize for Opinion and Analysis Journalism, and the George Polk Award for his Atlantic cover story "The Case for Reparations." He lives in New York with is wife and son. - Between the World and Me book jacket.

 

Book Title

The title of the book is taken from Richard Wright's poem of the same name.
